SNOW DAY Cocktails — What You Need at the End of the Snow Day

0

Another snow day? No chance to re-up at the wine store? (And remind me again when are they going to start selling wine in grocery stores in Tennessee?!) Nevermind all that. We’ve got you covered. Here are three ideas for bottom-of-the-barrel, End of the Snow Day (and maybe the end of your patience!) cocktails ( as well as links to a bunch of other recipes). Don’t have an essential ingredient? Now’s the perfect time to get to know your neighbors!

Berry Cream Cone

Berry snow cream cone Snow Day Cocktail NMB

  • 3 cups fresh, clean snow
  • 1.5 oz chilled vodka
  • 0.5 oz vanilla
  • 2 oz berry puree, sweetened with honey

Shake over ice. Serve in a chilled highball with a snow ball on top.

I had vodka and found this recipe for a Strawberry Cream cocktail using fresh snow. I didn’t have strawberry vodka, so I found some frozen berries and pureed them with water and honey. Overall, it was not my favorite treat ever—next time I’ll add cream or just try Beth’s Snow Cream cocktail and tell you how it goes!

Adult Hot Cocoa Snow Day Cocktail NMB

Hot Cocoa

  • hot cocoa mix and milk or water (follow directions on mix)
  • 1 oz vodka or bourbon
  • 0.5 oz peppermint schnapps (optional)

Serve in a mug and garnish with marshmallows and a candy cane if you’ve got them. Play with other flavored liqueurs if you’re feeling adventurous!

For this drink, I just did the lazy man’s version by making hot cocoa and adding liquor. I figure that if I’m making cocoa more than once a day for the kids, the parents might as well enjoy it as well! Here are some super fancy cocoa cocktail ideas if you want to really dress up your mug.

Milk Punch ** My favorite!! **

Milk Punch - Snow Day Cocktail NMB

  • 1.5 oz rum
  • 0.5 oz bourbon
  • dash of vanilla
  • 3 oz cream or milk or half and half
  • 3 T powdered sugar (or simple syrup—if you’ve got the time)
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, etc. (whatever you have). Freshly grated, if you have them whole!

Shake over ice. Serve in a chilled highball. Garnish with another sprinkle of cinnamon (or the spice of your choosing). Check out another version if you have other liquor in the house.

Yum yum yum. My favorite this time around, for sure. Light and sweet and easy ingredients.

We didn’t have some of these liquors on hand—but luckily our neighbors did! So, put the kids to bed, make yourself a cocktail, and have the neighbors over! Or maybe enjoy a little impromptu at-home date night with your partner. And get ready for tomorrow!

Do you have any favorite cocktails that would be perfect to make on a snow day?
