Get Moving Together Family-Friendly Fitness Options NashvilleMomsBlogPerhaps you made a commitment to be more fit in 2015. Perhaps you want to set a better example for your kids. Or maybe, you just want to spend more quality time as a family. We all know that health is a gift that keeps on giving. Opportunities for improving the health of your whole family are a win-win, right?! In light of this, we’ve put together this list of organizations, classes and events in the Nashville that are family-friendly and health and fitness focused.

Country Music Marathon/Kids ROCK Nashville

kids_rock_too_fb_postMost of us are familiar with the Country Music Marathon, but d0 you know about KiDS ROCK Nashville? Their mission is to promote physical activities that are fun for kids to do on their own, with friends or with family members. If you are training for the half or full marathon, why not bring your kid(s) in on the action?

The event is for grades Kindergarten – 7th. The 1st – 7th graders run a mile, and kindergartners run a 1/2 mile. Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2pm (the day after the CMM).

**The lovely folks from Kids ROCK are offering Nashville Moms Blog readers $5 off Kids ROCK Registration. Enter the code NASHMOMSKR15—valid until April 17, 2015.

Hike It Baby Nashville

Hike It Baby Guest Post Nashville Moms BlogHike it Baby is a national organization dedicated to getting families out in nature. They believe that our world would be a better place if we all stepped outside at least once a week for a walk in nature. Hike it Baby was created to get everyone outside—from the new mama who is only comfortable doing urban strolls with her stroller to the hardcore mama who wants to hike 6 miles with her baby in a carrier. This is not only a great way to get exercise in with your little ones, but also a great way to meet other moms!

Blooma Nashville

This new yoga studio  offers mama/baby yoga, baby-wearing barre classes, childcare (for when you’d get your tree pose on without “help”), and a variety of kids’ classes.

Climb Nashville

If you’ve got climbers (like I do) and rock-climbing interests you, Climb Nashville is the place to be. They offer classes, day passes, and memberships, so you can dip your toes or jump right on in. From beginners to those with more experience, all are welcome. Fitness classes, climbing instruction, and tons of options for kids (camps, homeschool offerings, and after school programming) make Climb Nashville a truly family-friendly option to get moving together.

Community Centers

An often under-utilized option, Nashville has some truly great community centers. With outdoor and indoor basketball courts, tennis courts, trails, and a variety of fitness classes, these centers are hidden jewels in our neighborhoods. Check out your local Community Center to see what offerings they have available!

YMCA

One of my favorite fitness resources, the YMCA has multiple membership options from association-wide to single location. (They even offer need-based financial assistance!) With pools, tracks, tennis courts, and a wide variety of exercise machines, child care, group fitness classes, swim lessons, sports lessons, and day camps—you’ll be hard-pressed to find a fitness option (or need) that the Y doesn’t meet for your family.

What family-friendly fitness options do you love around town? Did we miss something amazing? Let us know in the comments!
