Homemade Food Pouches Made Easy!

1

When our daughter was getting close to starting solid foods, I decided that I would rather make her baby food than buy the jarred stuff. I never really knew if I was saving money or not, but I knew exactly what my child was eating, and that was all I cared about. Once she was eating more, I did purchase some of the fruit pouches from the grocery store so that I could have them handy when we were out running errands and she got hungry. The day that I saw that Infantino created a gadget that would allow me to make yummy fruit purees for my daughter in an easy to use pouch at home, I knew I had to have them!

To make her fruit pouches, I have used both fresh fruits and various frozen fruit blends from the grocery store. I found that sometimes I could find a good deal on the pre-made ones and that allowed me to see if my girl liked that blend. I then tried to recreate it with fresh fruits and veggies. Recently, I made two different blends: Mango, Peach, and Strawberry  and Blueberries, Pears, and Plums. I washed and cut up the fruit prior to adding them into my food processor. Since these blends have some juicy fruits, there was no need to add any extra liquid.

The Infantino Squeeze Stationmakes 3 fruit pouches at a time. The Squeeze Station comes with ten pouches and you can purchase additional pouchesas well since the pouches themselves are not reusable. There are 3 tubes that attach to the pouches and a plunger that presses the puree into each pouch.

The pouches each have spaces to add the date and contents. I used a Sharpie and added the information to 5 pouches prior to filling them.

Sometimes, when there is a little extra, I pour it into a bowl and store it in the fridge for a little treat. I usually freeze my new batch of pouches; they can remain frozen up to 3 months. If you are headed out first thing in the morning for an all morning outing, toss one or two of these into your diaper bag or your little one’s backpack, and by lunch time, it will have thawed enough to serve as a nice, cool treat! Also, if you have one who is teething and has no interest in food, these are great because you can make sure they are still getting some good nutrients with a cool temp—always a plus!

Michelle
Hello everyone! My name is Michelle, my husband is Dan and our daughter is Penelope. We moved to the Nashville area in November of 2013. I met my husband while attend college at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. Prior to attending school at the U of A, I lived in the small town of Union City which is located in the Northwest corner of Tennessee. After the birth of our daughter, I toyed with the idea of leaving my job and staying home with our daughter and eventually did when she was a little over 7 months old and it’s been an incredible journey ever since. I am very excited to be in Nashville and we are already enjoying the benefits of being in this area and I look forward to sharing with all of you a glimpse of what our life is like here.
