You Might Be A Judgey Mom If . . .

0

Seen all the memes, videos, and posts about the “judgey mom” and worry that you might be one? Well, because we are so very helpful and live in the home of country music, we wanted to give you a quick Jeff Foxworthy-style checklist. Let us make it easy for you to determine if you are a (dun dun duuuun) judgey mom.

Sidenote: if you don’t know who Jeff Foxworthy is and need a good chuckle, look up “You Might Be a Redneck If…” on YouTube. You can thank me later.

If you have ever uttered (or typed) the phrase “I would never”. . . you might be a judgey mom.

If you roll your eyes when seeing the meals, outfits, toys, or (gasp!) TV shows other moms allow their children to enjoy? You might be a judgey mom.

If you have ever criticized the routine of a child (without being asked for advice) because it differs from yours? You might be a judgey mom.

If you have ever offered your opinion about a parents’ choices (vaccines, breastfeeding, formula feeding, sleep training, etc) without being asked . . . you might be a judgey mom.

and, drumroll please…

If you are a mother (whether by birth, adoption, fostering, etc) . . . you might be a judgey mom.

Even if we don’t want to admit it, we are all the judgey mom at times. (Even if we don’t verbalize or type our thoughts, it happens.) Yes, ladies. It’s true. We ALL have our thing. It can be a big or small. But we all have something other parents do that drive us CRAZY. It’s part of parenting! We’ve all made parenting choices because we think they are the best options for our families. If we didn’t think they were the best options, we would have chosen something else.

Want to to help yourself STOP judging and START supporting?
Look for the win.

Find the thing that another mom is doing RIGHT, and focus on it. Compliment it. Celebrate it. Maybe you think a mom serves too much processed food. But I bet she is great at keeping a clean house — or works her butt off earning a living for her family. Maybe her house is a mess 99% of the time, but she makes the BEST Halloween costumes for her kids.

Momming is hard work. But the load feels a lot lighter when we have a community of other moms cheering us on instead of bringing us down

After you’ve had some practice cheering on the other moms in your life, practice cheering on the mom you judge the hardest — YOURSELF. You can do it. We believe in you!
