Nashville Summer Camps 2017

We, as fellow moms, know that summer camps are on the top of moms’ lists of things to figure out. While summer makes many think of popsicles, parks, pool time, and lazy backyard days, we KNOW that, as moms, it can also be a frustrating time when you are struggling to piece childcare together week by week and month by month. We hope that this guide provides the insight that you need to plan a fun-filled and stress-free summer—for all of your family.

A special thanks goes out to all of the sponsors that helped us made this guide possible. If you would like your camp included in this guide please email meg{@}nashmomsblog{dot}com.

Let’s explore where we can send our little happy campers this summer!

No two weeks at YMCA Day Camp are the same as campers spend each day immersed in the weekly theme, learning new skills, exploring new concepts, achieving amazing things and having lots of fun. The majority of the camp day is spent outdoors, with some small group and reflection time built into each day. Recreational swimming is a major component of each week, and the Y is excited to offer a free Water Safety Instruction course to all campers who do not pass the Y’s swim test.

New in 2017, the Y is excited to add basketball, flag football and soccer camps to the Day Camp menu. These half-day camps offer concentrated skill development drills and games, and parents have the option to add-on day camp in the afternoon for a full-day experience.

For our younger campers, Camp Little Y offers an age-appropriate variation of each week’s day camp theme for ages 3-5 (must be potty-trained.) With more inside time than the traditional program, our “Little Campers” enjoy lots of crafts, playtime and swimming.

YMCA Day Camp and Camp Little Y offered weekly, May 30-July 28

YMCA Sports Camps offered weekly, June 5-July 28 (No camp week of July 4)

In YMCA Summer Adventure, campers explore creativity through art, build literacy skills during scheduled reading times, and reinforce healthy choice through meal preparation and physical activity. This summer-long virtual world cruise encourages campers to learn about the customs, culture, and cuisine of seven unique and exciting countries around the world.

Campers build on new and existing skills during this progressive summer experience, enjoying a wide variety of activities each week that include swimming and fun field trips.

Enrollment in YMCA Summer Adventure is open to anyone meeting the age requirement (ages 5 to 12 unless otherwise noted). Prior enrollment in YMCA Fun Co. or in the school where the program is located is not required.

Over the course of 5 days, they will plan out and design their own Minecraft items, creatures, recipes, blocks and game rules. They will then add these rules into the game themselves, working through elements of game design and project management.

Robotics / Engineering Camp

All inventors have been inspired by how things work and what can be created wth imagination and parts. The STEAM Society Robotics Camp brings together a strong robotics focus with a foundation of Physics, Math, and Science! Our instructors have a passion for science and want to help your child develop a curiosity for making things work. Our fun-filled engaging hands-on camp allows free creation as well as instruction designed to make STEAM come to life.

In addition to a robust curriculum we will have a robotics competition on the final day and would encourage parents to join us, as we demonstrate core concepts in robotics and engineering through various challenges posed for campers to complete.

Videography Camp

In partnership with the award winning professional team at 6 Strong Media, we have created a videography camp that takes the green room to the outdoors and the editing studio into the palm of your child’s hand! Instruction around the basics of film making such as storyboarding, creative process and editing are reviewed to prepare campers to go out in to the enviornment to create film. This will be an active, engaging, fast-paced experience that takes them through the world of a production studio. Budget, project management, and a final day film festival will provide a  story-based learning enviornment.

We use open-source or low cost software, and mobile applications to promote ongoing learning for your child without you having to worry about expensive equipment. Enjoy and active summer camp with a focus of responsible film making on the go!
