Viva la Diva Run! Calling All Divas & Dudes! {Sponsored Post}

{NMB has partnered with FiftyForward and their Viva la Diva Run for this sponsored post. We believe that it is important to support the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle for women (and men) of all ages. This race is the embodiment of that ideal, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!}

FifyForward’s Viva la Diva Run is a part of Nashville’s Making a Move series—a collaboration of 5 different organizations that have fitness events* (mainly promoting fitness for women): Girls on the Run, Girls “Tri it On” Triathlon, Team Belladium, Race for the Cure, and Viva la Diva.

In our interview with race director Gail Sonia, she shared with us that FiftyForward is all about promoting health and wellness for people from childhood through senior living. Her team desires to make it a community goal to be more fit—whether that be walking or running their 5K or 10K. They want to make this a family-friendly event!

Nashville Moms Blog: What is your favorite part about the Viva la Diva race?

Gail Sonia: I love the starting line and watching the hundreds of people running down the road in front of Nissan North America. It really makes all the effort put into the race feel worth it! Especially when I watch our participants from Girls on the Run—seeing those girls cross the finish line is priceless.

NMB: What do you want Viva la Diva runners to take away from this race experience?

GS: That being fit & healthy is FUN! We get a lot of first time runners and run/walkers who didn’t think they could do this. They find that the energy and camaraderie makes it fun!

NMB: Can you give us some more info about the course?

GS: We are really thankful that Nissan North America allows us to use their campus; it’s a wonderful site in Cool Springs that is perfect for a race. It’s a really nice course with only one medium-sized hill. While the rest is not flat, it’s not super-hilly—just beautifully rolling ups and downs. It’s a gorgeous area of town!

NMB: We know our readers will want to know—are strollers allowed?

GS: Yes! Running strollers (specifically) are allowed for both races. Unfortunately, regular strollers (4-wheels) are not as it’s a safety issue. (Also, no pets, please.)

NMB: Tell us more about the Best Dressed Diva & Dude contest!

GS: Oh, that is really fun! Every year, we’ve had people in amazing costumes show up for the race. So this year, we really wanted to promote that as part of the race. We feel like this adds fun and flair to the event!

We recruited four really great judges from the Nashville-area community and got the support of Dillard’s who is providing gift certificates as prizes for the costume contest. (Top prize is a $250 gift certificate!)

NMB: Viva la Diva benefits FiftyForward; what do you want women in their 20s & 30s to know about FiftyForward?

GS: We know that your parents are likely in their 50s and 60s (or older), and you’re probably starting to see changes in them and in their abilities, and we know what this is like. We’re all about keeping people active and healthy physically and mentally by providing older adults programming and services that allow them continue living a rich life full of social engagement and lifelong learning. FiftyForward not only helps older adults—we help the families that care for their loved ones by offering everything from resources to respite care. One day we will all be faced with these challenging questions and we want those in their 20s and 30s to know we are here to not only help their parents but to help them during the aging process. In addition, FiftyForward offers many volunteer opportunities at centers and in supporting valuable community programs. To see how your skills may benefit others, visit: fiftyforward.org.
