About 200 miles southwest of Nashville, is a city you might have heard of called Memphis. Dubbed for it’s famous BBQ, blues, soul and Rock ‘n’  Roll roots, Elvis and Beale Street, there is so much more that lies within this river city, making it a great weekend destination!

With family living in and near Memphis, we decided to visit over the summer to celebrate my daughter’s second birthday. Memphis has many option for kids, big and small! On this quick overnight trip, we decided to visit the Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid and the Children’s Museum of Memphis.

Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid

Have you ever been to a Bass Pro Shop before; well forget everything you knew because this place is nothing short of amazing. It is a massive area of beautiful fish, shopping, restaurants, a bowling alley, a ride to the top of a glass elevator to overlook the Mississippi River AND a hotel. I couldn’t have imagined all of the luxury that awaited me. My kids loved it and best of all, it is completely free to enter. I highly suggest putting this at the top of your to-do-list because your kids will leave fascinated! For more information on what they offer, visit here. Make reservations at the Big Cypress Lodge and make your experience even more magical!

Children’s Museum of Memphis

Near the site of the former Libertyland attraction (they even have a former carousel from Libertyland inside), you can find the Children’s Museum of Memphis. This museum is beautiful, with so many interactive activities to stimulate your child’s mind and allow them to spend hours running and playing in a safe environment. You will find exhibits from real life police cars and fire trucks, to an interactive FedEx plane, to music, art, history and more. The museum also hosts birthday parties for your littles if you are interested in bringing a group. During the warmer months, there is an outside splash pad area for your kids to play in and enjoy the water fun. This is suitable for all ages, as my two year old and eleven year old both had loads of fun and didn’t want to leave! Get your admission info and add this to your itinerary.

Good Eats

Memphis is full of top-rated restaurants. With BBQ being what Memphis is most known for, and a fan favorite for our family, we chose Central BBQ. There are several locations to choose from and the prices and portions are good. Put this on your list, you won’t be sorry!

Memphis has so much more to offer for children and adults, but for a quick weekend trip, these were on the top of my list. If you are a fan of history and music, you can also check out the Civil Rights Museum, Graceland or the Stax Museum. The Memphis Zoo is always a fun place to visit with kids, but be sure and check the weather forecast, because the summer heat is sizzling. Enjoy your time in the Bluff City!
