Located on 320 acres along the shores of Percy Priest Lake, YMCA Camp Widjiwagan is affectionately known as an outdoor oasis in Nashville’s backyard. Widji’s Day Camps, Overnight Camps, and Equestrian Camps offer a large variety of activities and programs that are sure to fit even the pickiest of campers.
Water sports are by far the most popular because they have so many to choose from! Campers love stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking, jumping on the blob, going down the Wet Willie, leaping off the Tom Sawyer swing, surfing, water skiing, sailing, swimming in the camp pool, and riding the banana and shark boats.
Kids who would rather leave their sea legs at home can explore the archery range, learn how to ride horses, dominate the multiple sports fields, bounce on the KJ (Kangaroo Jumper), reach new heights on the Alpine Tower, go with a friend down the double zip line, climb Mt. Widji, conquer the high and low ropes courses, and jump off the giant Pamper Pole.
New in 2016 are Pony Camp, Doctor Who Camp, Widji Jam Camp, LEGO Camp, Alien Invasion, Princess, and Pirate Camps. They’re even building a GREEN HOUSE for Farm Campers and the Widji Kitchen cooking lessons. You can read more about these in detail here!
Overnight campers get a chance to experience summer like never before. Each child has his own bunk bed and cubby for the week and can rest comfortably in the air-conditioned cabins. Indoor plumbing ensures each child has privacy when using the restroom and showering. With a 1 to 5 counselor ratio, kids have the supervision they need to stay safe while making lifelong magical memories.
Day campers get to experience the magic of camp each day of the week. With so many options to choose from, children get to pick what activities they would like to focus on. There’s even bus transportation available for children in Day Camp, too! Out of the ten bus sites around town, there’s sure to be one close to you.
Though Camp Widjiwagan’s facilities and activities are known nation-wide, what truly sets Widji apart is their philosophy of putting “kids and guests first.” In all circumstances, the children and guests’ experience is their top priority. Each counselor is trained extensively to provide a safe, fun, magical, and educational experience for all who enter camp. Each program is developed with four core values in mind: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility so that each camper learns these important parts of growing into mature leaders.
